The Legal Practice Management Association was formed to help those people who are responsible for developing and promoting legal practices such as Barristers Chambers and Solicitors Firms. There are two types of membership:

Membership of the LPMA is open to those individuals who work exclusively, in an employed or freelance capacity, for a set of chambers or a solicitors’ firm and whose primary responsibilities are the management, development and/or marketing of the practice. Members can be engaged with the organisation on a full-time or part-time basis but those operating on a freelance/consultancy basis must be engaged exclusively by one set or firm on a contract of at least six months duration.

Members are expected to be part of, or report directly to, the Management Team in the organisation and have lead responsibility in one or more of the following areas:
  • Strategic Planning
  • Human Resources
  • Financial Management and Business Development
  • Quality Assurance, Regulation and Compliance
  • Clerking and Practice Development
  • Infrastructure (e.g. IT, facilities, accommodation etc.)

  • Short but focussed events (usually 1 – 1.5 hours) keeping members up to date with relevant issues. See our events page for details of past and future events held by the LPMA.
  • Regular updates by email.
  • Access to a comprehensive "Resources" section of the LPMA website
  • Great support from like-minded people.
  • A friendly and open organisation; great business and social networking.
  • Free attendance at most LPMA business events, ie lunchtime or evening briefings (special events and conferences may incur a small charge).
Current fee: £50 on joining and £50 per year (1 January to 31 December) thereafter. (The fee includes free attendance at standard business events)

Full membership will NOT be appropriate to:
  • Solicitors or barristers who have a practice management role unless they spend at least 60% of their time in this role
  • Freelance contractors or consultants who are not engaged exclusively by a set of chambers or firm for at least six months at a time
  • Clerking or administrative staff who do not have lead responsibilities in two of the areas listed above.
Registration and payment must be completed online.  Please follow the link below.

Open to individuals with an interest in legal practice management or those seeking a practice management role within the legal profession. It is also open to niche organisatons who feel their services may be of interest to Practice Manager, and although our policy is not to advertise the services of others, the marketing opportunities arise through networking at events.

  • Opportunities to meet experienced practice managers, get a feel for the working environment and what the job entails, and provide an insight into issues facing the legal profession, particularly chambers.
  • Business and social networking.
  • Occasional notification of vacancies within the profession.
Current fee: £30 on joining plus £30 per calendar year (1 January to 31 December) thereafter.  (There is also a £15 attendance fee at all standard business events)
Registration and payment must be completed online.  Please follow the link below.

Casual membership allows non-members to book for a single event. It is open to legal professionals only and subject to approval by the LPMA Committee.
Casual membership expires after 10 days.
