Information and Technology Panel

Multiple vacancies for legal or IT professionals to join the IT Panel

The Bar Council’s Information and Technology Panel is currently seeking several new member’s – this includes legal professionals and Chamber’s IT professionals, but we welcome other applications as well.

Recent work of the Panel has included:

  • Working with members of the Law Society in our joint Cybersecurity Working Group, which in March launched an information security questionnaire.
  • Reviewing and updating the Bar Council’s IT/information security guidance notes on the Bar Council’s Ethics and Practice hub.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders, including HMCTS, the ICO, the NCSC and others, and monitoring IT policy developments.

 

The Panel’s Terms of Reference are:

  • To consider and where appropriate actively provide input into IT developments and their implications for the legal services market and the practising Bar;
  • To provide advice (including in relation to training) to the Bar on IT matters;
  • To provide IT input as required to any Bar Council committee needing it in relation to any matter or project.

 

The Panel’s current chair is Jacqueline Reid.

The Panel reports to the Legal Services Committee and meets about six times a year (meetings start at 5:30 pm, and the next meeting is on the 11th October).

The Bar Council is committed to ensuring diversity in the make-up of its Panels and Committees. Applications are particularly welcome from members of those groups who are underrepresented at the Bar.

All Bar Council Panel and Committee members are encouraged to pay the Bar Representation Fee.
