Reporting to the Senior Practice Manager and working closely with the Director of Clerking, Senior Clerk, other members of the PM team, and the COO, the successful candidate will play a central role in practice management of members, client relationship development, fee negotiation and team leadership, while helping to drive the continued success and reputation of chambers.

Person Specification

Candidates will (ideally) have a minimum of 4 years’ experience within a barristers’ chambers or similar professional services environment. They will be highly personable, demonstrate strong commercial awareness, excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders. Highly organised and proactive, they will be confident managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with experience in diary management and fee negotiation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactive management of barristers’ diaries, ensuring smooth coordination of commitments
  • Liaising with solicitors, clients and courts to secure and progress instructions
  • Monitoring workloads and capacity, ensuring effective allocation of work
  • Listing and fixing hearings, organising conferences and related commitments
  • Supporting practice development through regular review meetings with members
  • Quoting, negotiating and agreeing fees, advising on appropriate commercial arrangements
  • Assist the Director of Clerking and the Head of Marketing with marketing initiatives
