This is an entry level role and offers the foundation to an exciting career in clerking which may suit a college leaver or those with some work experience. You will need excellent communication skills and a strong academic record. You will provide administrative and organisational support to the Practice Management Team, as well as assisting colleagues to deliver an efficient and professional service to barristers and clients.

Person Specification

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft software
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Flexibility, adaptability and willingness to help out
  • The ability to be positive and take the initiative with a “can-do” attitude and positive, friendly approach
  • Ability to work unsupervised and plan own workload

Key Responsibilities

  • Accompany barristers to and from court with papers and books when required and make deliveries to other chambers when necessary.
  • Deal with all incoming and outgoing communication - via telephone and post.
  • Record on the fees and diary system when papers have been sent out of Chambers.
  • Undertake case entry on the Lex system.
  • Undertake diary management on the Lex system.
  • Lodging authorities and skeleton arguments with the courts and tribunals.

Professional Qualifications

  • BTEC and/or 5 GCSEs including Maths and English grade 4, level C or above.
  • A levels preferred but not essential
