We are looking for an exceptional and experienced person to lead our busy fees collection team in this new role. The primary responsibility involves overseeing and managing the collection of professional fees for over 90 barristers at Gatehouse Chambers.
Gatehouse Chambers Fees Team is an essential part of chambers’ credit control operation, making sure that outstanding fees are collected promptly and effectively.
You will be working in a team of four with management responsibility for the team and financial reporting responsibility to the CEO. You will work closely with the Finance Team (and Finance Director) and Practice Management Team (and Practice Director).
The day-to-day role involves:
The fees team is responsible for managing c1000 live accounts, issuing fee notes, invoices, and reminders, and liaising with barristers and team colleagues about cash collection and client firms. Each member of the fees team takes responsibility for the collection of about 25 barristers and their aged debts, using a range of follow-up methods.
The skills required for this job include:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in chasing fees across a variety of organisations and lay clients. A broad understanding of LEX (or the ability to acquire it quickly) and the ability to turn raw data into meaningful reports using excel to a high standard. Experience of managing the workload of your team and supporting them in their interactions with difficult clients and barristers. Accuracy and attention to detail, determination to solve problems, ability to work on your own and be a committed team member and leader, good record keeping, enthusiasm and energy, pride in delivering a good service. Being an effective communicator and having a courteous, firm and professional approach.
The person we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will have experience of credit control within a barristers’ chambers, law firm or other professional service organisation where balancing fee chasing and maintaining on-going client relationships is important. Experience of cash collection for litigation and/or cost drafting would be desirable but is not essential.
Full time or flexi time, and remote working
Ideally, we are looking to fill this post full time with someone who works in the office at least 3 days a week, and that will be a key part of our consideration to find the most suitable person for this new job. However, we recognise that flexible and agile working can help to attract and retain talent in the workplace.
