Criminal Practice Manager

We are looking for a Criminal Practice Manager who has the drive and ambition to ensure that our criminal barristers are busy, and are taking on interesting and challenging work. You will be expected to manage diaries on a day to day basis, as well as working with members to develop their careers. You will work with our Chambers Director on marketing and business development, and act as an ambassador for Chambers at outside events.

5 Pump Court is looking for a new Criminal Practice Manager. We are a progressive, diverse multidisciplinary set and are looking for someone organised and energetic who can drive our criminal team forward. Our ideal candidate will have experience of criminal clerking including both prosecution and defence work. We are looking for someone with drive and ambition who can work with our members and our Chambers Director to build and expand on our current position.

Person Specification

• We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:
• A proven track record in clerking;
• Enthusiasm for business development, and ideally some experience of participating in marketing events;
• The ability to build effective working relationships with clients and members, and to work well in a small staff team;
• Good spoken and written communication skills;
• Good organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Day to day clerking and diary management;
• Billing criminal work and chasing unpaid fees;
• Marketing and business development for the criminal team;
• Recruitment of new barristers to join the team.

Professional Qualifications

• Good spoken and written communication skills;
• IT skills such as Word, Outlook and Excel;
• Familiarity with DCS, CJSM, Common Platform;
• Familiarity with CPS and defence legal aid billing.
