About this Job

This is a role with both strategic and operational responsibilities, and our Chambers Director works closely with the Head of Chambers and Management Committee to propose and implement strategy for the development of Chambers. The successful candidate will also need to have a good understanding of operational issues and ensure that Chambers meets its regulatory and compliance requirements. Business development is a key part of the role, as is relationship building with key stakeholders.

About this Employer

5 Pump Court is a progressive, diverse multi-disciplinary set based in Middle Temple with specialist practice groups in civil, family and criminal law. We are seeking a new Chambers Director to oversee our business and operations. This is a varied and interesting job, and includes responsibility for managing a small but effective staff team; shaping the practices of 50 barristers and pupils; developing Chambers’ business, brand and operations.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who is able to manage a wide range of stakeholders and responsibilities, and is good at building strong working relationships. This role has overall responsibility for a wide range of functions, so we are looking for someone who is organised and energetic, self-motivated and able to work well within a small team. Experience of working in a regulated profession would be advantageous, but a legal qualification is not.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing Practice Managers and other staff (some of whom work remotely).
  • Developing Chambers' business, brand and operations.
  • Developing and overseeing Chambers' marketing function and business development initiatives, and building relationships with key clients.
  • Ensuring the good governance of Chambers, and ensuring that it meets its regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Maintaining strong networks within and out with Chambers, including with members, staff, contractors, suppliers, other sets, the Inns, the Bar Council and the BSB.
