The role works closely with the Practice Manager and other colleagues to ensure the smooth running of Chambers, offer appropraite support for members and their practices, and deliver a highly efficient service to a broad range of Chambers’ clients. Our client is a leading set of Barristers’ Chambers based in the North West of England, specialising in Family, Civil and Criminal Law. Chambers has an exceptional and growing team of 42 family counsel, including two leading counsel, who are instructed across the Northern Circuit in public and private children cases and finance and property cases. Chambers is now seeking an experienced family clerk to join its clerking team in Preston.

Person Specification

  • Suitable candidates will ideally have a track record working in a similarly reputable Barristers’ Chambers and experience using diary management systems, and a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of managing the practices of barristers. Applications from candidates who are working in similarly fast-paced environments with transferable skills will also be considered.
  • The successful candidate will be meticulously organised, trustworthy, and hardworking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for all clients and prospective clients relevant to the clerking team
  • Advise solicitors and other clients or prospective clients on appropriate counsel, their availability and levels of fees as applicable.
  • Resolve day to day problems, including moving cases for barristers’ convenience and returning straightforward matters.
  • To obtain and record information from Counsel on the outcome of court work/conferences/paperwork.
  • To report new business opportunities to the Practice Manager and participate in events and initiatives as required.
