The Bar Council’s International Team is pleased to be running the second bespoke international dispute resolution training for senior Chinese lawyers (10 years’+ PQE), held this year online. The training aims to give the lawyers a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of legal processes and the work of barristers in England and Wales.
The SLTS is separate from the long-running Bar Council Training Scheme for Chinese Lawyers (those up to 10 years’ PQE). It is a shorter, more intensive training programme aimed at more senior lawyers - those at Partner or Senior Associate level.
This year’s training will take place between 8-19 March 2021, 08:30 - 11:00 each day.
We are seeking barristers’ chambers to host a 75-minute online seminar or skills training workshop focused on commercial dispute resolution. Interested chambers must be active in the commercial law field and should have an international element to their practice.
The Bar Council will host the seminar/workshop on its online platform and deal with all of the technical requirements. Chambers will simply need to provide a session instructor(s) to run the session itself.
We would like chambers to propose a specific seminar topic or skills training session in line with the following areas: arbitration; international trade; commercial disputes; funding; life at the Bar.
Skills training workshop proposals could include things such as: effective oral advocacy, effective written advocacy, witness handling or reading a tribunal.
We would also urge participating chambers to factor in gender balance when identifying session instructors.
If you are interested in hosting a session, please complete the form below and send it to the Bar Council’s International Team at IntlEvents@BarCouncil.org.uk by 18:00 on Wednesday 17 February 2021.
Chambers may offer to host more than one session. If you are interested in doing so, please indicate all sessions you would be prepared to host in the form below. We would, however, like to spread the opportunity as widely as possible and may therefore not be able to allocate more than one session. If you have any queries regarding the programme, please contact the Bar Council’s International Team at IntlEvents@BarCouncil.org.uk or on 020 7611 1357.
Please see here for the application form.
