Our client is a Magic Circle commercial set, recognised nationally and internationally as the leaders in their field. They currently seek a Head of Marketing to provide business development support to Chambers and Members of Chambers. Moreover, to deliver a strategic and analytical approach to Chambers’ marketing activities as well as managing external communications.

Hours:40 hours per week plus lunch hours

Reports to:Senior Clerk/ Deputy Senior Clerk, Marketing Committee & Heads of Chambers

Business Development:

  • Identifying, developing and facilitating marketing initiatives and opportunities to raise the profile of Chambers and its Members
  • Identifying and assisting with Chambers’ industry and client-focused talks, seminars and events
  • Liaising with Members to write and edit or make submissions to a range of publications, including in particular legal directories and award submissions
  • Liaising with the publishers of such directories and makers of such awards in connection with submissions, rankings and awards
  • Establishing and building media relationships within the legal sector

Business Strategy:

  • Assisting with strategic analysis of work and trends to identify future opportunities
  • Building the profile and overall visibility of Chambers and its members both in the UK and internationally
  • Assisting with the website strategy and content, including updating members’ profiles and news items
  • Developing strategies and conducting research into legal sectors in order to build market presence and support the Members in their marketing activities


  • PR and liaison with legal and wider press on behalf of Chambers and its Members
  • Preparing media briefing notes and preparing interviewees as appropriate
  • Creating and maintaining media lists/database
  • Drafting press releases and other PR related material
  • Develop a Chambers e-newsletter (quarterly initially) and similar materials for marketing to law firms
  • Assisting with content of Chambers’ brochures
  • Identifying and drafting “news items” for the website
  • Managing external communications including social media (Website, Twitter and LinkedIn)

Person Specification:

  • Ideally educated to Degree level, or equivalent industry qualification
  • Experience gained from working in Barristers’ Chambers in a similar role
  • Excellent communicator – written & verbal skills, including presentations skills
  • Maintain existing and build new PR relationships
  • Extremely well organised, able to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, LEX & WordPress
  • Able to work flexibly in a busy, fast-paced team environment
  • Willing to travel nationally & internationally as required
  • Highly professional, personable, well-presented & client facing

 Performance Measured by:

  • Ability to gain and maintain Members’ confidence in marketing and communications
  • Ability to gain and maintain PR relationships within the legal sector and in particular publishers of directories
  • Positive feedback from Members, clients and industry contacts
    Efficiency in dealing with work and accuracy and quality of work produced
  • Ability to work with initiative, maintaining a flexible and responsible attitude, both personally and within the department and Chambers
  • Personal development and contribution to the overall business objectives of Chambers Good team working
  • Good attendance and timekeeping
