Our client is one of the leading planning, environmental and public law chambers in the country. Based in London in attractive offices, they have a small and friendly support team. They are seeking a full-time Finance Executive to cover maternity leave for 12 months. The finance executive will report to the head of finance who is a qualified accountant.

Main Responsibilities:  

  • Reconcile BACS and bank account daily
  • Process cheque and BACS payments and send VAT receipt to clients
  • When fees received advise members by sending daily payment summary
  • Complete supplier forms for LA and private practitioners
  • Chase any remittance advices missing from incoming payments
  • Reconcile online event bookings and seminar account
  • Liaise with Government legal department when invoices are rejected to resolve
  • Filter queries coming into BACS@ and FEES@ and either respond and resolve or forward appropriately
  • Resolve overpayment and unallocated payment queries
  • Chase outstanding invoices in respect of in-house seminars and events
  • Correctly allocate prepayments / payments on account once work billed by clerks
  • Process refunds to clients
  • Generate quarterly VAT reports for all members
  • Invoice members for monthly contributions and rent
  • Add invoices to QuickBooks and pay suppliers within agreed timescales
  • Log petty cash and Chambers credit card payments
  • Provide finance reports for barristers and their accountants
  • Support payroll processing activities as required
  • Assist our external fee chasing agency in queries relating to outstanding fees as required
  • Set up direct debits for Chambers to collect member’s contributions

 As this is a small business, the post-holder will be expected to demonstrate a high level of flexibility and be prepared to ‘roll sleeves up’ and contribute outside of their job remit from time to time.

Person specification:

 Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:

  • GCSE maths and English 

Desired academic, professional qualifications and experience:

  • Quickbooks
  • Petty cash experience
  • General administration experience
  • Experience of the LEX Chambers management software would be an advantage
  • Ability to use MS Excel

  • Good written and spoken English
  • Numerate

  • Microsoft word and excel skills
