The Client

Our client, a leading common law set of Barristers' Chambers in Central London is seeking to employ a Part-Time Bookkeeper. Chambers is at the forefront of change in the legal profession, providing modern, professional and approachable legal services to a wide range of clients throughout the country and abroad. Its self-employed members provide first-class advocacy and practical legal advice in virtually every aspect of civil, family and criminal law. Its skills and experience has led it to be consistently recognised in legal directories and by its professional and lay clients as leaders in all of their core practice areas.

The Bookkeeper will have direct responsibility for Chambers’ finance and working as required with its external auditors, reports directly to the Chambers’ Director of Operations (“DoO”).

The Role: Duties will include:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Preparation of (multiple) quarterly VAT returns
  • Preparation of year end accounts and liaison with external auditors
  • Processing purchase invoices onto the accounts system (Sage 50)
  • Regular review of processes and controls to ensure best practice being followed in all areas
  • Matching supplier invoices with purchase orders, ensuring properly authorised
  • Updating central account and follow up
  • Regularly reconciling supplier statements and credit balances on purchase ledger
  • Maintaining banking records, updating cashbook, reconciling online banking system
  • Processing bank payments and receipts
  • Entering receipts to the sales ledger
  • Assisting with preparation of monthly direct debt list
  • Preparing payment runs through online banking system

The Person (will have):

  • A minimum of AAT level 3 Qualification
  • Previous experience of working within a Chambers environment (highly preferable)
  • Previous experience of working within a finance team
  • Excellent attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of recording information accurately
  • The ability to multi-task under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to use own initiative and escalate issues as appropriate
  • The ability to work as part of a team

You will possess excellent organisational skills including the ability to manage and prioritise workloads.  Experience of using Microsoft packages which includes Excel and Word, and experience of using Sage 50 accounting package are all essential.

This part-time role (up to three days per week as required) offers a highly competitive pro-rata salary
