Administration Manager - Leading Barristers' Chambers (London)

Our client is a leading Barristers Chambers practising across a range of Commercial and Civil law, with a particular focus on EU, competition, VAT and other indirect taxes and public & administrative law. Chambers is widely acknowledged as “leaders in the field” in each of its practice areas. Following a review of its administrative and management functions, Chambers now seeks to appoint a highly suitable individual to the newly created role of ‘Chambers Administration Manager’.

Reporting to the joint Heads of Chambers and working closely with members, other senior staff, and with line management responsibilities for their own staff teams, the role provides efficient and effective administration to Chambers and its Service Company.

This hands on and varied position will play a very active role in the continued success of Chambers.  

The Role

Facilities and Supplies: Lead reception, Houskeeping and Facilities functions; maintenance of appearance and functionality of all premises; procurement of all office equipment, negotiation of contratcts; health and safety requirements; manage refurbishment/repair projects; preparation of annual budget and monitoring of expenditure.

Human Resources: Ensure staff and members handbooks are fully compliant; maintenance of Chambers’ insurance policies/crtificates; Bar Mutual and Data Protection cover; compliant HR records and policies; administer staff records including recruitment, policies and procedures, job descriptions and holiday records, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

IT and Communications: Lead Chambers Information and Communication function; Ensure effective and efficient service to members and staff at all times and the ensure infrastructure is fit for purpose and resilient.

Secretariat, Governance and Compliance: Act as secretary to Heads of Chambers, Chambers Committes, Chambers Meeting and AGM; work closely with Bar Standards Board/other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance; main contact for regulators; act as Chambers Diversity Officer and Data Officer.

Others: Effective line management and development of staff; active pursuit of the principles of equal opportunity/diversity; marketing and administration support, including attendance at events (when required); interest in business finance.  

The Person

  • Be educated to degree level or hold an equivalent vocational qualification in business, accountancy or other relevant field; or be able to demonstrate relevant equivalent experience.
  • Possess demonstrable track record of successfully working and managing in a legal, professional services or similar environment with experience relevant to the functions required.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and influence others effectively at all levels.
  • Possess a record of effective day to day and project based delivery within previous roles.
  • Be innovative, flexible, and able to manage and deliver a diverse workload to time and beyond expectations.

The position is offered with a salary package, including discretionary bonus and benefits, commensurate with the seniority of the role.
