Our client is a leading set of chambers, with members who specialise in Criminal, Fraud, Health & Safety, Regulatory, and Sports Law. Members of Chambers practice in the UK as well as all across the world, particularly in multi-jurisdictional criminal investigations. Chambers is seeking a part-time Chambers Manager. 

You will provide administrative support to the Chambers as a whole acting as PA to the Head of Chambers, the Management Committee, and various sub committees e.g., pupillage and tenancy.

 Reporting to: The Joint Heads of Chambers

 Duties include:

 Property and Facilities Management:

  • Ensuring the furnishings and the fabrics of chambers are well maintained at all times and dealing with repairs as required by outsourcing to professionals
  • Checking all domestic supplies are maintained at all times
  • Managing the recycling of wastepaper and confidential waste disposal
  • Alarm system management
  • Management of printers and copiers
  • Organise and manage the facilities, including the presentation of the public areas and library
  • Liaise with the landlord and contractors
  • Ensure the efficient running of the facilities and housekeeping
  • Responsible for noting and reporting to the Management Committee any defects in the fabric of the building and equipment as well as obtaining quotes
  • Supervising repairs and any other building/ maintenance works
  • Deal with any disabled access issues

 Marketing Support:

  • To assist with the marketing plan as required, including helping with the organisation of seminars, functions, mock trial competitions and networking events as part of the chambers marketing strategy

 Compliance:

  • To ensure that all the barristers and staff are maintaining and upholding the requirements of the Bar Council and/or Bar Standards Board at all times. This includes ensuring that chambers policies and procedures are maintained for:
  • Pupillage
  • Health and Safety
  • Internet and IT protocols
  • Data Protection
  • Insurance- Public Liability, and Professional Negligence requirements (Bar Mutual)
  • Barristers Practice Certificates (and CPD accreditation)
  • Chambers supervision strategy (risks)
  • Any other policies that may be required 

To ensure that Chambers and members of Chambers meet the standards set by the General Council of the Bar and comply with the regulations issued from time to time. Including, but not limited to, ensuring that Chambers are adequately prepared for Bar Standards Board supervision.

 Contracting and Billing:

  • Assisting and liaising with the Chambers accountant regarding expenditure, recharges to members, service bills and contracts

 Human Resources:

  • To supervise receptionists, librarian and junior fees clerk, acting as their line manager
  • Keep all staff files and documents up to date including induction, sickness, holiday, absence, time records, all contracts, job descriptions, appraisals and documents relating to recruitment

 Information Technology:

  • Supervising IT requirements for chambers and liaising with the providers and support companies as required
  • Assisting Members of Chambers, ensuring day to day repairs and firefighting is dealt with promptly 

 General Administration:

  • To diarise all Management Committee, Sub Committee and Practice Group meetings
  • To provide any necessary administration and general administration support including filing and answering the telephone
  • Responsible for the induction of all new staff and tenants into Chambers to include provision of all keys, codes and instructions
